Trains to London

train

South Eastern Trains run a good service to London from Ashford International Station.

On most days trains leave twice an hour and take just over an hour to get to London.

Look out for Groupsave where 4 people can travel for the price of 2 on a train if you go off peak.

If you travel by train you can also get 2 for 1 tickets for many London attractions. Have a look at the Days Out Guide for more information.

Oyster Card

If you are spending some time in London then an Oyster card would be a good idea.

It's a card that you buy with a £3 deposit (refundable when you return the card).

You top it up with money and can use it to travel on the underground, bus and train in London.

There are several good reasons for using one, as well as the main one which is to save money.

  • Saves time by not having to queue to buy a ticket
  • Just top up with cash when necessary
  • Don't worry about having change
  • Always cheaper than a single ticket
  • Single bus ticket costing £2, Oyster cost would be 90p
  • Tube or train fare costing £4, Oyster cost would be between £1.50 and £2.50 depending on the time of day
  • You just touch the card at the start of your journey and the end and it automatically works out the cheapest fare
