Visit Canterbury - for a Great Day Out

Visit Canterbury, it's famous for its cathedral which you must definitely visit. What you may not know is that Canterbury is such a vibrant place to go.

Because it is a popular area with tourists and it has two universities there, the place is always buzzing. There are lots of lovely restaurants and if the weather is good there is plenty of outside seating. You will often have buskers playing music, it has a street market on some days and the whole place just has such a good vibe.

Everyone knows that Canterbury Cathedral is a place not to be missed. It's a fantastic building, the architecture is unbelievable and if you are lucky you may visit at a time when a choir is practicing and hear the amazing sound of singing in that huge building.

  • Opening times Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, Sunday hours are slightly less
  • Sometimes closed for special events
  • Cost to enter is £7 for an adult


Canterbury Tales

Canterbury Tales

Visit Canterbury Tales, it's one of Kent?s most popular attractions and has a reconstruction of 14th century England set inside the historic St Margaret?s Church.

The reconstruction and audio soundtrack will take you back over 500 years to join Geoffrey Chaucer and his colourful characters on their magical pilgrimage from London to Canterbury Cathedral.

  • Open all year round
  • Opening times are 10am to 4.30pm with longer opening times in summer
  • Cost is £7.75 for an adult and £5.75 for a child aged 5 to 15 years



River Tour

For something different, take the river tour that operates from the High Street and lasts just over half an hour.

The boat takes you on the River Stour to the Franciscan island known as The Greyfriars at one end of the city, brings you back past some medieval industrial buildings, gives you wonderful views of the cathedral and wends its way through the Dominican priories built in the 14th century.

  • Open beginning of April to the end of October
  • Operating times 10am to 5pm
  • Tours leave every 15 to 20 minutes
  • Cost is £6.50 for an adult and £4 for a child under 12, £4.50 for a child 12-16


Ghost Tour

Take a night time stroll around Canterbury with your very own ghost hunter!

  • Tour times 8pm to 9.15 pm Friday and Saturday
  • Cost is £7 for an adult and £5.50 for a child


City Wall Walk

Although only half of the original city wall is left standing at Canterbury, it is possible to walk its length of just under 2 miles finishing at the Dane John Gardens.
